About the Author
Keith Ellis has worked in the power transformer industry since 1971. During his 40 year career in the industry, he has gained a unique perspective concerning every aspect of Bushings for Power Transformers. In the early days, he selected bushings for power transformer quotations, then, while in field sales, he supervised the installation of bushings in many new power transformers. Beginning in 1986 he focused his efforts specifically on power transformer components, becoming knowledgeable about every phase of bushing development, design and application. In 1992 he was challenged to develop a line of I.E.E.E./A.N.S.I. standard bushings for the US market. In 1995 he developed the concept for high current, low voltage, draw lead bushings. These new bushing designs transformed the bushing industry; bring a new level of safety, lower costs and faster replacement of bushings to the Utility industry. Another development Keith has achieved was the introduction of non-porcelain insulators for oil filled bushings. This introduction brought a new level of safety to the electric substation by reducing collateral damage when there is a major power transformer failure. Keith has also gained experience over the years investigating power transformer failures where the bushing was the suspect. This has gained him the reputation as the go to person when there is a failure of a power transformer, especially if the bushing is suspected. In 2010 Keith decided to share his years of bushing and power transformer experience by writing this book with the objective of providing the Utility Engineers and Technicians with a comprehensive handbook on Bushings for Power Transformers.

About the Author

Dr Nikant Sabharwal qualified in 1996. He completed his medical SHO rotation and MRCP in 1999. He has done research in Nuclear Cardiology at Northwick Park Hospital (Harrow, Middlesex) towards his MD thesis. He was appointed to the Specialist Registrar training programme in Cardiology in the Oxford Deanery in 2003. His sub-speciality interest is cardiovascular imaging. Andrew D Kelion is Consultant Cardiologist at Harefield Hospital, Harefield, UK, where he runs the busy Nuclear Cardiology service. He qualified from the University of Oxford, and trained in cardiology in London, Reading and Oxford. As a British Heart Foundation Junior Research Fellow in Oxford he used radionuclide techniques to investigate the warm-up effect in patients with angina, leading to a DM. He is a past President of the British Nuclear Cardiology Society, and continues to play an active role in education and training at a national level. His current research interests include the use of radionuclide techniques to guide invasive cardiological procedures such as coronary angioplasty and device implantation.
Dr Chee Yee Loong, BSc (Hons), MBBS, MRCP, is a Specalist Registrar in Cardiology at the Hammersmith Hospital, Noth West Thames . He trained at University College London and was a Research Fellow in Nuclear Cardiology at the National Heart and Lung Institute in London. He is a Diplomate of the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology.

As I progress through life, and accept that I'm not young any more, I also realize that the younger generations do not ingest books the way I do. If you look at the reviews for this book, especially at the 1 and 2 star ratings, you'll find a deplorable pattern. "It was too slow." No, you're not considering what you're reading. "The author is a racist." Definitely no, he's almost drawing a caricature of them to shine a great big spotlight on facism and bigotry in order to persuade the audience of just how evil these things are. "The ending was too abrupt." or "He obviously meant to write a sequel." No and no. After many thousands of words placed in thought provoking ways, the author challenges the audience to decide what the story means. And gives us license to pick the ending that we think fits the best.This story was written in the 60s, and is set then as well. What if the Axis won World War II is the major premise behind the setting. The conflicts highlight the extreme to which Japanese and German cultures could have gone, and the possible effects of living in a land under the control of one, and strongly influenced by the other. Imagine the Japanese concept of place, mixing with facist bigotry, overlaid on oppressed Americans living in a totalitarian world. PKD thoroughly denounces facism, bigotry and xenophobia.But the story is more than that. The plot is hidden from the reader as we see events from several points of view. And the narration ends with barely a paragraph of denouement. If you are not driven to contemplation about the meaning of life or the nature of reality by this work, you should read it again, slowly.

I was putting off buying this due to it having reviews like "confusing ending" however when watched the series on Amazon I was amazed and stunned at the same time. And i figured with all books and movies/tv adaptations the book is always better.We always see the commercials on tv for the what 'ifs' about history what if the Nazis won the war whats if World War II ended entirely different. We don't know for sure how this would actually have turned out but PKD offers some amazing insight to what it would have been like.Each character has there own unique persona and unique motives for what they are really out to get. Every character is masterfully developed. PKD doesn't just focus on the character's PKD is able to fully capture you imagination and create a beautifully horrid reality inside your mind as you read.This is one of the books that you will read reread and still be wondering about what truly happened or what the book was really about. One of the most complex and inciting books I have read and loved so deeply in a long time. Overall if you like alternative-history or books with complex backgrounds and amazing story's you should be sure to read this.

One of the greatest novels of th 20th century. I've been a PKD fan since the early 1980's, obsessively collecting his work, most of which at the time was out of print. It's safe to say that no person did more to shape my intellectual development as a teenager than Philip K. Dick. I am forever in his debt.That said, TMitHC is a treasure. It distills a number of Dick's obsessions into a taut character study set against the backdrop of a world going even more mad. Each of the 6 'protagonists' here are searching for truth. Only a couple of them are capable of facing it dignity.As with all of Dick's best work the world-building is efficient and brilliant. I re-read this recently to prepare myself for watching the new serial, and was reminded of just how good Dick's prose is. The casual racism of Mr. Childan, the inner strength of Juliana, the coldness of Joe Cinnadella. But, it is Mr. Tagomi who owns this novel. He is one of Dick's finest characters, at once pragmatic and idealistic. Mature and naive. The living embodiment of the Tao.The ending matters both textually and thematically. The Stranger is not merely one of the most widely read novels of the 20th century, but one of the books likely to outlive it. Written in 1946, Camus's compelling and troubling tale of a disaffected, apparently amoral young man has earned a durable popularity (and remains a staple of U.S. high school literature courses) in part because it reveals so vividly the anxieties of its time. Alienation, the fear of anonymity, spiritual doubt--all could have been given a purely modern inflection in the hands of a lesser talent than Camus, who won the Nobel Prize in 1957 and was noted for his existentialist aesthetic. The remarkable trick of The Stranger, however, is that it's not mired in period philosophy.

The plot is simple. A young Algerian, Meursault, afflicted with a sort of aimless inertia, becomes embroiled in the petty intrigues of a local pimp and, somewhat inexplicably, ends up killing a man. Once he's imprisoned and eventually brought to trial, his crime, it becomes apparent, is not so much the arguably defensible murder he has committed as it is his deficient character. The trial's proceedings are absurd, a parsing of incidental trivialities--that Meursault, for instance, seemed unmoved by his own mother's death and then attended a comic movie the evening after her funeral are two ostensibly damning facts--so that the eventual sentence the jury issues is both ridiculous and inevitable.

Meursault remains a cipher nearly to the story's end--dispassionate, clinical, disengaged from his own emotions. "She wanted to know if I loved her," he says of his girlfriend. "I answered the same way I had the last time, that it didn't mean anything but that I probably didn't." There's a latent ominousness in such observations, a sense that devotion is nothing more than self-delusion. It's undoubtedly true that Meursault exhibits an extreme of resignation; however, his confrontation with "the gentle indifference of the world" remains as compelling as it was when Camus first recounted it. --Ben Guterson

The new translation of Camus's classic is a cultural event; the translation of Cocteau's diary is a literary event. Both translations are superb, but Ward's will affect a naturalized narrative, while Browner's will strengthen Cocteau's reemerging critical standing. Since 1946 untold thousands of American students have read a broadly interpretative, albeit beautifully crafted British Stranger . Such readers have closed Part I on "door of undoing" and Part II on "howls of execration." Now with the domestications pruned away from the text, students will be as close to the original as another language will allow: "door of unhappiness" and "cries of hate." Browner has no need to "write-over" another translation. With Cocteau's reputation chiefly as a cineaste until recently, he has been read in French or not at all. Further, the essay puts a translator under less pressure to normalize for readers' expectations. Both translations show the current trend to stay closer to the original. About the Author

Crawford W. Loritts Jr. (DDiv, Biola University) is the senior pastor of Fellowship Bible Church in Roswell, Georgia. He has served as a national evangelist with the American Missionary Fellowship and the Urban Evangelistic Mission, and as associate director of Campus Crusade for Christ. He is a frequent speaker at professional sporting events, including three Super Bowls and the NCAA Final Four Chapel, and has spoken at conferences, churches, conventions, and evangelistic outreaches throughout Europe, Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and the United States. He is the author of six books, including Leadership as an Identity, Lessons from a Life Coach, and For a Time We Cannot See.
